After spending so many years with the characters in my debut, then spending so much time editing that MS, I’ve been having a really difficult time switching my brain to draft-mode for my second book (plus pandemic. dayjob. family. responsibilities.)
I’m still learning myself as a writer, but from what I’m able to tell so far, I’m an incredibly fast editor, and an abysmally slow drafter. I’d been stagnating between 44k and 46k words for the last four months or so. This morning I was pumped to see that I’d passed 50k yesterday without realizing it. My first book’s first draft was around 100k, but I’m aiming for 80k on this one. Think I can get there by December?
